U13 HURLING
Our U13’s kicked off their championship campaign against St. Pats last Monday on a glorious evening in Grangemockler at 7.30pm. The first half was a very close encounter with some great skills on display. St. Pats were just edging it out on the scoreboard with 3 points to the good at the interval but we were creating plenty of chances to narrow the gap. The second half proved to be a more difficult task where St. Pats got on top. There was some superb pieces of play and performances for Grangemockler/Ballyneale but we just couldn’t capitalise on the chances created in the second half. Next up for the U13’s is Clerihan who they face on Tuesday 20th June at 7.30pm in Granegmockler.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL
We had a busy week on the footballing front last week. First up was Clonmel Commercials in Monroe in the South Intermediate football championship. This was a game that we controlled from start to finish with the team showing excellent discipline and work ethic in the way they set up. We ran out winners by 1-12 to 0-5 in the end which was a boost heading into a county league final. Two days after this win we found ourselves going to the well again with silverware up for grabs against an experienced Aherlow side in Division 2 county football league final. After an excellent start and leading by 0-4 to no score after 10 minutes we were feeling no ill effects of playing two days apart. Aherlow battled back into the game and got back within two points leading up to the break, 0-7 to 0-5. The dismissal of Michale Meagher for two yellow cards and the loss of Mark O'Meara through a foot injury were massive blows for us as we were looking to push on in the final few minutes of the first half. Just before the break we were dealt two killer blows when Aherlow capitalised on a ball dropping around the square to punch to the net and then picking up a misplaced pass two suddenly turn the game in their favour. Having led for most of the half we now found ourselves 4 points down heading into the break. Aherlow started the second half the better of the two teams as we were adjusting to life with a man less. We did however get thrown a lifeline when Ben Comerford was quickest to react to a ball that broke in the Aherlow goal mouth to punch to the back of the net. Aherlow again responded with 3 points on the trot but this group does not lie down and somehow managed to claw their way back within two points with a few minutes remaining from two Mikie Lyons frees. Chances did pop up for us again near the end after Aherlow were reduced to 14 for a black card. Unfortunately Aherlow held out and we didn't manage to convert in the final moments. Well done to Aherlow who showed vast experience on the day to claw out a victory. From our own perspective, we played extremely well in parts of the game and our work rate was second to none all over the field and showing no signs of let up even when playing a large part of the game with 14 men. There is lots of learning from this game and hopefully it will stand to us when we get to the latter stages of the South championship and kick off our county campaign.
