Rúnaí, a chara,
The Dillon Quirke Foundation was set up in honour of the late Dillon Quirke who collapsed and died of S.A.D.S. on August 5th last in Semple Stadium, Thurles. He was captaining our team on that evening in the Tipperary championship.
His family, Dan, Hazel, Shannon and Kellie have launched The Dillon Quirke Foundation in an effort to raise awareness and save lives by screening every G.A.A. player both male and female from the age of 12 upwards. By doing so, they hope to prevent other families from going through the heartache of losing a precious family member.
On February 19th next, Tipperary will play Kilkenny in Semple Stadium, Thurles with all proceeds of the game going directly to Dillon’s Foundation. A special word of thanks to Liam Cahill, Derek Lyng and their panel of players for affording us the opportunity to raise funds for the Foundation and providing a platform for us to increase awareness.
We are inviting all clubs in Tipperary and Kilkenny to organise a Long Puck Competition in their club. Our proposal is that every participant would pay an entry fee of €10. The winner of the competition would go on to represent your club in the Clonoulty Rossmore G.A.A. Grounds on either 11th or 18th of February 2023. It is envisaged that four participants, 2 from Tipperary and 2 from Kilkenny would then play the final of this Long Puck Competition during half time in the match on Sunday February 19th in Semple Stadium. These four players will be presented with a specially designed Dillon Quirke Foundation jersey, in their county colours, with the winner receiving the Dillon Quirke trophy. All funds raised will go directly to the Foundation.
If your club is interested in organising this competition, l would be most grateful if you could inform me by return e-mail before 28/01/2023 and when you have completed it, please provide me with the name and contact number of your winner. We will contact them with regard to which date of the two already mentioned we would welcome them to the Clonoulty Rossmore G.A.A. Grounds.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Is mise,
Caitríona Ní Ghormáin
